Blue Jean was selected for the Giornate degli Autori program of the Venice Film Festival, where it was awarded the Audience Award. The film won four British Independent Film Awards, including Best Leading Actor and Best Debut Screenwriter

Blue Jean is the impressive feature debut by British director and screenwriter Georgia Oakley. The film shows that there is room for everyone in the world. Even if society throws up obstacles, you can learn to be yourself. Jean (Rosy McEwen) is a high school PE teacher. It is 1988 and the Thatcher government passes a law banning the promotion of homosexuality (Clause 28). At school, Jean is not open about her sexuality. She is not that far yet, but this new law now makes it impossible. The arrival of a new student ultimately forces Jean to make choices.
