We follow anti-hero Alice, a thirty-something who tries to survive in an increasingly success-oriented society. A slapstick hell journey through contemporary Netherlands; a world populated with criminal barons, quacks, wappies, radio DJs and fascist pregnant women.

Who the fuck is Alice is a brand new theater text inspired by the strong female roles from the work of Greta Gerwig. Kyrian Esser wrote the comedy especially for the 6 players of the Theatertroep.

In Esser's screwball comedy we follow anti-hero Alice, a thirty-something who tries to survive in an increasingly success-oriented society. She is accompanied by her half-sister Lizzy on a slapstick hell tour through contemporary Netherlands; a world populated with criminal barons, quacks, wappies, radio DJs and fascist pregnant women.

Comedies with strong female leads are on the rise in America. Born from the screwball comedy - smoothly written comedies of errors from the 1930s where women were the smart pioneers for the first time and men the ignorant followers, the genre has received a new impulse with forewomen such as Phoebe Waller Bridge and Greta Gerwig. Intelligent and layered female characters are central to them, and work themselves further and further into trouble in a contemporary here and now, while using sharp, fast dialogues.

DE THEATERTREOP
De Theatertroep is a collective of six actors that has focused in recent years on reintroducing and reinventing the Vaudeville theater form. Vaudeville comes from voix de ville meaning: 'voice of the people'. It has traditionally been a continuous program of short contemporary performances that integrates various art disciplines. The name summarizes what de  Theatertroep wants to offer: to offer an art experience that is accessible to everyone and that goes beyond a specific performance, a message or morality, than pure technical ingenuity.
