The Quiet Girl has been nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film. It was previously the big winner at the Irish Film and Television Awards (including Best Film and Best Director). The Quiet Girl received five stars in The Guardian: 'A deeply moving tale of rural Ireland already feels like a classic.'

The Quiet Girl (An Cailín Ciúin) is the understated and enchanting debut from Irish director Colm Bairéad. The film tells a universal story about finding your own place, seen through the eyes of the young Cáit. Both the Irish language and the beautiful landscape color her world. Ireland 1981. With another child on the way, there is not enough room for the young, introverted Cáit (Catherine Clinch) with her parents. She is sent to live with relatives in the countryside for the summer, where she is lovingly cared for by Aunt Eibhlín (Carrie Crowley). Cáit's dour uncle Seán (Andrew Bennett) has more trouble with her presence. Gradually, Cáit discovers that there are also secrets in this house. Yet she blooms open, but every summer comes to an end.
