The film Onder het Maaiveld makes the unseen seen. The film inspires and amazes and provides insight into the soil. Next to the world above ground, populated by plants, insects and birds but especially by people, there is a second world: an underground community of roots, larvae, worms, fungi, bacteria, amoebae and arthropods. The existence of this world will not surprise anyone, but that all life in that microcosm is busy communicating with each other is nothing short of astonishing. There are more living creatures in one teaspoon of healthy soil than there are people on Earth. We are about to make a major turn in the history of our relationship with nature and our soil. We have to. Farmers have to change, consumers have to live more sensibly, the industry has to change. But how do we do that? How do we learn to use our soil more wisely? The film Onder het Maaiveld shows what needs to be done on a large scale by focusing on the world around us and the fascinating world directly beneath our feet. Actually very special that every day we look beyond nature that forms the basis of our existence on earth.
