Aftersun is the feature debut by Charlotte Wells in which the young mother Sophie looks back on a holiday she took with her father Calum twenty years ago. This fond memory brings her back to this blissful time, as she gradually realizes that her father was depressed.

Young teenager Sophie and her thirty-year-old father Calum go on holiday to a Turkish seaside resort where they swim, play pool, sunbathe and laze. While a new world opens up for the young teenager, Calum struggles with the heaviness of life out of Sophie's sight. Twenty years later, Sophie's tender memories of this vacation form a powerful and heartbreaking portrait of their relationship, as she tries to understand the dark side of her loving father.

At the international film festivals it rains nominations and awards for Aftersun. Wells received a Jury Prize at Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival, and she received a BAFTA. Paul Mescal has an Oscar nomination for best actor.
