A famous artist promises Syrian refugee Sam that he will be able to travel freely through Europe if he lets the artist create an artwork on his back. Sam agrees, but can you actually sell your skin ánd still be free?

After Sam is separated from the love of his life when they flee Syria, he meets an artist that turns unusual objects into valuable art. This artist offers Sam the opportunity to let him tattoo the Schengen visa on his back, which will make him into a living piece of art and allow him to travel freely cross borders throughout Europe. Sam grows into a world famous, expensive work of art that travels from museum to museum. He can now indeed cross borders where- and whenever he wants, but the question is whether that has truly made him a free man.

A film asking questions on freedom, dignity and duality that was partially based on one of Belgian artist Wim Delvoye's work, a tattoo on the back of Tim Steiner. THE MAN WHO SOLD HIS SKIN was also nominated for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
