For the new interdisciplinary performance Winter/21/J., Ryan Djojokarso creates an inquiring portrait of a white man under tremendous pressure. In this performance (containing dance, theater, video images, and live singing), protagonist J. is the subject of examination. It is midwinter. Depression and stagnation loom in the shadows. Nothing grows, there is little light, and J. feels like he’s standing still. The pressure he feels is in his own mind but also comes from the outside world. He struggles for survival while spring slowly approaches.
