Dutch photojournalist Piet den Blanken photographs normal people all over the world. At first sight, they might be doing their day-to-day stuff, but at second glance they are often actually resisting some form of suppression. Those people normally don't make it to the front page - but in Piet's photo's, they do. A documentary for everyone who is interested in (the possiblities of) journalism and photography. Piet den Blanken will be present after the film screening for a Q&A.

This documentary is in Dutch.

We screen this documentary in cooperation with Pennings Foundation Eindhoven, that shows photo's by Piet den Blanken between 4 September and 10 October 2021 in the exposition Migration.

"Factual but not objective - objective journalism doesn't exist", is how photojournalist Piet den Blanken thinks about his work. This documentary portrait shows how he got into the business in the 70's and how he developed into the photographer he is nowadays.

Piet den Blanken is a documentary photographer and photojournalist. He studied reportage photography at the Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn and has been an independent photographer since 1978, specializing in social and economic subjects. His photos were published in national and regional newspapers, trade union magazines and opinion magazines.
