Tunisian Fares and Meriem go on a weekend trip to the south east of their country. But suddenly, they are being fired on in their car. They manage to turn the car around relatively quickly, but their 11-year-old son has been hit in his liver. A race against time follows, during which discovered secrets evoke even more emotions.

In this amazing debut film by director Mehdi M. Barsaoui, a Tunisian family is confronted with question on parenthood, masculinity and personal ego in the Arab world when the son becomes gravely wounded in the summer of 2011. The emotions and choices of Fares and Meriem show us what the contemporary Tunisian society is like.

UN FILS won the award for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival and was received very well by the audience during the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
