America, 1980s. Nike is barely surviving and Michael Jordan is nothing but a promising talent in basketball yet. But from the moment they launch the iconic Air Jordan Sneaker together, they become unforgettable. However, the exclusive, crazy expensive and extremely popular sneaker also evokes greed and conflict.

Nike is having a hard time in the America of the '80s, that does not really seem to win its war on drugs yet. To address team sports players, Nike decides to attract a basketball scout and work together with young and talented film maker Spike Lee for its commercials. The combination of talent and timing turns out to be golden: the Air Jordan Sneaker becomes a must have, but is unaffordable for some people and the first so-called sneaker crime is committed in 1989. Someone even gets killed. This shoe is not only of enormous economic value, but has also had a huge social, cultural and racial impact.

ONE MAN AND HIS SHOES features interviews with Jordans' agent, basketball scout Sonny Vaccaro, designer Peter Moore, Nike marketing executives and journalists who reported firsthand on the so-called sneaker crimes.
