About Endlessness

A reflection on life in al its beauty and cruelty, in all is splendor and banality. Swedish film master Roy Andersson makes you float through his film, as if you are dreaming, lifted by a magical, fairy-like voice-over.

This film attaches equal degrees of value to banal, everyday moments as to historical events: a couple floats over the German city Cologne that has been destroyed by war, a father stops to tie his daughter's shoelaces while walking to a birthday party in the pouring rain, teenage girls are dancing in the sun outside a café, a defeated army marches to a prisoners' compound. Like a kaleidoscope, this film constitutes celebration as well as a lamentation of the the endlessness of humanity and the vulnerability of life.
